Letterpress printing is a centuries old relief printing technique. We teamed up with the folks at Sycamore Street Press to use their Vandercook #3 which was built in the 1940s. It has no motorized parts at all, so everything is hand powered; from the ink distribution to the movement of the cylinder across the bed of the press. The raised artwork on the polymer plates are inked as the cylinder passes over it. The paper is then pressed down onto the inked surface of the polymer plate, which creates the great impression that modern letterpress is known for.
This technique brings the artwork of Priscilla Witte to life in a beautiful fashion with an embossed feel and unique textures meaning no two pieces are the same.
