Every Summer Has A Story - never let yours end...

Ljubljana, Slovenia

The capital city of Slovenia is absolutely beautiful, and eventhough we just stayed for a few hours it was enough to give us the perfect experience - plus the desire to return again!

Filled with cobblestone streets, and small back alleyways the town is a maze of intertwined beauty that one can find at every turn.

The river running through the center of town creates a beautiful juxtaposition between building and nature, and if one looks up they can see the castle standing gaurd over the city from the mountain peak.

The city is easy to navigate, even with a baby in tow, and local shops provide unique products that steer away from the usual tourist traps. For me this is one of my favorite parts of traveling - finding uniqueness - and Ljubljana provides plenty in this department.

I'm not going to lie one of the main reaons we stopped here was to try the tasting menu at Monstera Bistro, which we had heard so much about! The stop was well worth it as this little restaurant tucked away in one of the alleys serves up some of the best food I've had in awhile!

Fresh seasonal ingredients are the center point of their amazing lunch tasting menu, which changes every few days. It includes two appetizers, two main courses and two desserts to choose from. My wife, @MRHDaily, and I of course picked seperate things so we could try a little of everything.

For starters Megan went with the Smoked cod pậté, which included roasted beetroot, raspberry vinaigrette, quinoa chips, and fresh horse radish.

I opted for the Creamy daikon soup sour cream and ginger foam, rye bread crumble, toasted with hazelnuts and brown butter.

For my main course I went with their best-selling braised beef cheeks  served with potato & parmesan puree with black truffle oil, and roasted vegetables.

My wife went a different route and chose the glazed cauliflower with jerk sauce, red lentil with coconut, oyster mushrooms , and brussel sprouts.

My son Roko went with the finest milk they had, and he was quite pleased with his selection. On this note Monstera Bistro is very accommodating for those traveling with infants and children.

We finished our meal with arguably one of the best desserts I have ever had a lime and sour cream mousse, served with fig ice cream, pomegranate, honey cracker, and topped with a pistachio dusting.
